Many ask about the technique that I currently use in the clinic. The technique which is actually a protocol is known as Torque Release Technique. It comes about in 1995 as a result of a clinical trial that was being developed for the treatment of addictions. The technique, which uses light touch to identify the problem area, is actually comprised of 6 different chiropractic techniques, and utilizes all the chiropractic principles to make it effective. In essence the body as a whole is allowed to begin a healing process that even when the patient leaves the office the vertebrae are shifting into place with every step. The healing energy is produced from within the body by the nervous system as the vertebrae settle back into their correct posture and begin functioning properly again. The type of energy generated is similar to that energy that heals a cut or a scrape which occurs from within the body. With chiropractic this healing energy becomes readily accessible once the interference is removed. Sir Isaac Newton showed that force equals mass times acceleration, or F=ma, with the Integrator we are able to generate a good force simply by increasing the acceleration component. The concentrated surface area of the tip together with the speed of the release promotes the force required to stimulate the nervous system. Because of the mechanistic nature of the instrument, it is able to perform the same adjustment regardless of the doctor. This variable was important in 1995 when the clinical trial was being developed. It allowed for different patients to receive the same adjustments and it was not doctor dependant as with the manual adjustment. Torque release is seen as the upgrade to the adjustment. Another important feature of the Integrator and of Torque Release Technique is the torque component. This component introduces the force in more than one direction much like a key in a key hole that has to be turned clockwise or counterclockwise to lock or unlock the door. A vertebra moves in different planes and consequently the forces in these planes must be addressed, if movement is to be restored, and the body is able to move as a whole unit again. The torque component releases the “locked” vertebra, and this allows the vertebra to shift back to its proper orientation and the natural healing process is able to occur. With chiropractic intervention the body’s own restorative capabilities will ultimately return the body to a healthier state. Dr. Vince De Luca |
